Lightning:
One should select plants that require medium or low light for growth such as Boston Fern and Philodendrons because many houses do not have sufficient light for the normal growth of a plant. One can also use fluorescent lamps as a supplement. It is better to keep the plants in the windows or balcony during summers.
Watering:
While some plants prefer moist soil, others prefer wet. It is important to know the water requirements of every plant present in the garden. Plants should be kept in pots having holes at the bottom to facilitate good drainage. Plants should be periodically watered twice in a day. Frequency can be increased during summers. However, over watering will kill the plants.
Temperature:
The optimum temperature range for the growth of indoor plants is between 65-75°F during daytime and 50°F during nights. Rapid changes in temperature can cause significant damage to the plant. Best way to control temperature is watering and keeping the plant in shade. One has to keep windows and doors open so as to allow the circulation of fresh air.
Humidity:
Low humidity results in dry and curled leaves. Moisture level can be improved by sprinkling water on the leaves early in the morning. One can also use a humidifier during winters.
Fertilizer:
Fertilizer requirement depends on the soil used and the type of plant. Indoor plants do not have much requirement for a fertilizer. One can use regular kitchen waste or any other organic manure in order to suffice the daily nutritional requirements of the plant.
