Experiments That Prove Global Warming

Today we are witnessing one of the most profound climatic changes in the Earth’s history. Certainly, larger changes in global climate have occurred in the past, but they occurred over longer time periods, which endowed the species with sufficient time to adapt to these climatic changes.

However, the danger that we are facing today is that anthropogenic activities such as burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas), deforestation, noxious emissions from industries, rampant mining, careless dumping of wastes and practicing unsustainable methods of agriculture has led to enhanced greenhouse effect and global warming, which is occurring too fast to allow humans and other species to adapt. However, many skeptics consider the anthropogenic global warming as a mere theory or supposition and not as a scientific fact.

For anything to be considered as a scientific fact, it must first be tested using scientific methods and supported by sufficient scientific data. Any predictions must be tested by experiments and these experiments must be repeated until we reach the final stage wherein there remains no discrepancy between the theory, the experiment conducted and the final observations recorded.

Certainly, a large number of experiments have been conducted to understand global warming, but almost all of these experiments prove the effects and impacts caused due to global warming rather than prove the occurrence of global warming itself. However, during the past 50 years, scientists have noticed that the growth rings in corals as well as the width of the tree rings have been getting wider, which indicates that the global temperatures have been increasing. But this acts as mere evidence in favor of the global warming theory.

Although the climate system may be too complex to replicate, there is a need to conduct detailed studies and experiments in order to prevent climate science from remaining as an unexplored and imprecise scientific area. In light of this, increased emphasis must be given on proving the occurrence of global warming. Therefore, the challenge for climate scientists is to understand the climate system thoroughly and ultimately prove the occurrence of global warming through authentic scientific experiments.
